Reflection on our work language exposure experience |
ReflectionOn August 26, 2013, we had an in-house "reflection, integration and communication plan" session where we were given time to identify topics of interest.
As I had decided at the end of the previous term (June) that I would start covering 'inference' with my learners earlier the next term, one of the two topics of interest I chose during the August brainstorming session was inference. The second topic I chose to work on was how to best introduce 'essay writing' to my CLB5/6 learners - something I had not attempted before. Therefore, I had some reading to do before creating any resources to be used in class this term. When we had our in-house follow-up session on November 29, 2013, I was pleased that I had not only created the resources required but also used them with my learners with some degree of success. As I look back in the past 20 weeks, I feel my learners this term learned more about inferencing and essay writing than ever before. However, I also feel that I could have improved in some areas, particularly vocabulary building, active reading, focused listening and discussion. Earlier this week I asked my learners to identify the skill they felt they had improved the most, and many of the students said writing. While I am pleased to see the positive results of the online resources created for my learners to help improve their writing, I feel I still have a lot of work to do to help the students in other areas. Therefore, as part of my end-of-the-term reflection and goal setting for the next term, I feel I need to do some planning on how to better help my learners next term in the following areas:
If you feel you would like to collaborate with me regarding the creating of online resources to help our learners become more self-directed learners, please let me know. You may post a message in the 'contact form' placed in the lower right side of the home page of this class Weebly. Thank you! |
